Cosmetics: Precautions

Could your cosmetics be making you sick?

Caution needs to be used with when deciding whether to use any type of cosmetic, cream, or beauty product on your skin. Most women never think of the possible allergic reactions and aging problems that might occur when using these products on their faces and bodies.

To help alleviate consumers' concerns, many products use the term hypoallergenic on their packages. They market these products to you as if there is no need to worry about skin problems just because it is hypoallergenic. The truth is that there is no standardized test or method that can back up a claim like this.

Also be wary of products that state Dermatologist Approved or Allergy Tested. These marketing labels do not offer any guarantee that your skin will not have adverse reactions from those cosmetics. And of course, the word natural is another great way to pull the consumer into a mindset of false safety.

Below are some helpful guidelines for safe cosmetic use:

1. Always wash your hands and face before applying cosmetics.

2. Eye cosmetics should be thrown away after 6 months.

3. Mascara should be thrown away after 3 months.

4. Do not use the open samples of cosmetics when you visit the store. One survey found that almost 6% of these samples were infected with contaminants like fungus.

5. Any makeup that smells funny or has lost its regular consistency should be thrown away.

6. If you discover that you have an eye infection, do not use makeup. Also, throw away all makeup that you used prior the infection as these may be contaminated as well.

Use common sense when it comes to using cosmetics. Throw away old cosmetics. Dont assume that a product is safe just because the label says it is. And never share cosmetics with another person. These precautions could save you unneccessary aggravation and a potentially serious infection.

No Rule Set on Stone

The simple fact in life remains, that is, everything in life is changing and the only the thing that seems to be constant is change, well not quite, include the interpretation of laws, particularly laws on personal injuries. They say laws are appreciated in a different light and point of view dependent on the facts and circumstances in a particular case. True, laws are no good without any issue for it to be utilized. This is where law in its pure form can be made in as complex a state as it could possibly be. Although there is a system of law known as jurisprudence, which is the adoption of a courts previous ruling if the facts concerning the previous litigation actually relates to the same factual background as what is talked about in the case at the hand, there is no hard and fast rule that the same ruling would actually be adopted.

A case in point would be in a personal injury case. One case held as a rule, that in an accident accosted in an intersection, the person who has the right of way in consonance with the signal of the traffic light at the time of the impact has the ample right which must be upheld. In another case, meanwhile, it was ruled that despite the right of way of defendant, which was determined at the time of impact on the basis of the signal of the traffic light, he was still held as guilty for contributory negligence. He was asked to pay damages because he has the last clear chance to avoid the accident, which he failed to do. In this case, it was held that although defendant has indeed the clear right of way, he saw the plaintiff way before the accident happened, and if only he exercised proper prudence under the circumstances then the accident could have been avoided.

This and an array of other similar accidents, particularly those concerning vehicular mishaps are manifestations of how the law on transportation is viewed as dynamic. Meaning that notwithstanding what your personality is in an accident, if you think you were deprived of your rights then go ahead and fight for it, who knows you could be the next to debunk another landmark jurisprudence.

Find Your Speaking Audience by Knowing Your WHO and WHAT

Are you a public speaker who thinks its hard to find speaking audiences? Or are you a relatively new speaker or wannabe who finds it hard to get started? Perhaps you are in a services business and want to add speaking to your marketing to grow your business. Or you might be looking to add another revenue stream. Dont let finding your speaking audience keep you from sharing your message.

Imagine walking into a room filled with your target market. Heres a key to reaching more people so they can hear you and hire you. And the good news is, the same key ingredient is also the secret to your success at marketing yourself as a service provider.

THE SECRET HAS TWO PARTS: You need to know your WHO and your WHAT. First, get clear on your target market audience, or your WHO. This is who you serve.

Second, determine the outcomes you deliver, or your WHAT. This is what you do for this population of people.

Sounds pretty simple, right? And yet Im one of hundreds or thousands who resisted narrowing my target audience and niche for a long time; years. I didnt want to exclude anyone and, as a new business owner, I didnt want to turn people away and I would happily work with anyone so I started making money! The surprise, which might seem counter-intuitive, is that choosing a narrow market and specialty is THE best step to market your business, get invited to speak, and to receive referrals.

WHO YOU SERVE. Think of a population of people who you enjoy being around, care about, and whose problems you are familiar with. Consider with whom you have an affinity and the problems they typically have that you enjoy solving. Think in terms of their demographics; age, gender, profession, level of education, location, interests. Examples: women dentists, mid-life women, divorced fathers, first-time home buyers, single professional women, young male lawyers in their first 2 years of practice.

WHAT YOU DO. Now that you have identified a sub-group of people with some characteristics in common, what problems or complaints do they share? Think in terms of outcomes. What results do people have after theyve worked with you? What problems do you solve? EXAMPLES: Going back to our sample target markets above, you might help women dentists get more clients or help mid-life women build a first-time business or plan for their retirement activities or retirement finances.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT? Generally, in terms of marketing, once you can identify a sub-population of people, you can begin to figure out where they hang out. As a speaker, this also helps you find your speaking audience! Does an association exist for these people? Is there a specialty sub-group in the Chamber of Commerce for this population? Perhaps they read the same publications and hear speakers in an organized setting. This is a great avenue for you to publish articles they might read and to get invited to speak at their meetings.

Knowing WHAT you do for your audience also helps you prepare to speak by handing you your topic! By knowing the minds of the people in your speaking audience, you also know the problems they have in common and can provide them with answers, resources and a taste of what its like to work with you.

TAKE THE NEXT STEP. Its time for you to get in action to find your speaking audience. Ask yourself the questions above to see who you have the strongest desire to work with. You can also make a quick review of your past and current clients, find your favorites, and then observe all their identifying characteristics, both demographic and by personality and behavior. Notice any patterns? Make a choice and claim your target market so you can find your speaking audience. They are waiting to find you, hear you and hire you!

Oh, You Are Just Spoiled Rotten!

If you've ever called your own child spoiled rotten, you should be ashamed of yourself. Call someone else's kid that, no problem, but not your own. Why? Because all we can see of someone else's child is a result, and it may be disturbing. Whereas in your own case, the child is the 'spoilee' and you are the 'spoiler'. OK, perhaps your spouse, but you both have some responsibility in it.

Your child is like a dry sponge, with thousands of little cavities waiting to be filled up. And around the child is a world bursting with candy, toys, activities, snacks, TV and computer games all eager to pounce. And who is in the middle? You, the gatekeeper. The key master. The valve.

Now, if you think about it, a sponge works so so when it is bone dry. It actually works a little better when slightly damp, but if the valve is broken, the sponge will fill to capacity quickly and become useless.

Granted, you can point a finger at your mate. He or she is the one who gives Bobby everything he wants. You've even argued about it from time to time, and the same thing is said every time. "Come on, it's just until 11:00", or "think of how happy it will make him", or "I never got one of these when I was a kid", or "OK, but just this once". Sound familiar?

Almost everyone is guilty of this lack of will power to some degree. Unfortunately, if a parent lacks will power, the child will lack even more. This will develop to the point that the child will have no reason to deny him or herself anything. The notion was never passed down from the previous generation. Exercise a little restraint, can't ya?

OK, why should anyone deprive themselves of anything? Seems like a reasonable question. Well, for starters, if, in the extreme case, you got everything you asked for, you would never get to the point of truly wanting for something. However, without wanting something you can't have, at least right away, you don't set goals. And without goals you don't get anywhere. You are simply a full, soggy, sponge.

In addition, the spoiled rotten trait delivers a one-two punch. The spoiled individual may have little concept of the value of something. And worse still, the idea of having to save up for it and buy it on their own can seem ridiculous. Then there is the issue of generosity. How often is a spoiled individual truly generous? These and more negative characteristics can be attributed to someone who is spoiled rotten.

So my point is that as the guardian of all that is innocent and pure, being your child, you have the responsibility to think about such things and teach yourself how to control that which, if left unchecked, might put your child's life out of balance. If discussions with your spouse are called for and may cause some short term distress, better that than passing a bad apple down to your children to make them spoiled rotten.

I heard a remarkable phrase recently that I'd like to relate here. It had to do with ecology, global warming etc. "We did not inherit the earth from our parents, we are borrowing it from our children". And, in a way, I see this fitting in that we are the keepers of (their) childhood so that we can give it back healthy and strong.

The North Face Fleece: What it Does for You

The North Face has been around since its founding in the San Francisco Bay area in 1966. They started making ski apparel in 1968. They got into technical sportswear in 1996.

The North Face also has a long history of sponsoring mountaineering expeditions- their gear has been tested in the most extreme places in the world, including Everest, Antarctica, Siberia, Tibet & Nepal.

The North Face is not the only company that makes quality technical outerwear- notable competitors include Mountain Hardwear, Arc'teryx, and Patagonia. If you want to go cheap, go for Columbia, but if you want quality that stands up to extreme cold and wind, stick with the upper echelon.

Polar fleece is is a soft fuzzy insulating synthetic wool fabric made entirely from recycled plastic bottles. It was created in 1979 by Malden Mills, a new, light and strong pile fabric meant to mimic and surpass wool. Polar Fleece has some of wool's finest qualities but weighs a fraction of it. It's a vegan alternative to wool that is very light, soft and easy to wash.

Polartec x wt. Fleece is a technical title for polar fleece of a specific weight. Polartec 100, 200 and 300 series fabrics are the reference standard for lightweight warmth and breathability.

The North Face has several proprietary technical advances in their use of Fleece:

- TKA Fleece: Thermal Kinetic Advancement Fleece are proprietary fabrics created by The North Face with superior insulation and wear-resistance.

- DWR Finish: Gives long life to waterproof technologies.

- Windwall: The North Face's proprietary wind-resistant fleece. Fabric bonding limits air permeability and increases your comfort.

Not every fleece has all these features. The North Face has a bunch of options for you to choose from, and the jacket you choose is going to depend on what activities you're planning, what the weather in the target environment will be, and how much you're willing to spend.

State Quarters The Easiest Way To Start A Coin Collection

Nothing in recent years has done more to popularize coin collecting than the 50 State Quarter Program Act of 1997. This unique Act runs from 1998 until 2008 is easily the most popular minted coin series in the history of the U.S. Mint.

Beginning in 1998, five new state quarters are released each year for a ten year period with a new quarter released approximately every ten weeks. The quarters are minted for a ten week period and are never issued to the public again.

Borrowing a page from history a unique method of issuing the coins was devised. Each state quarter is issued according to when they became a part of the United States.

Each of the state quarters is minted with the image of George Washington on the front, or obverse, side of the coin but on the back, or reverse, side is a design based on something noteworthy about that particular state. Once the program is over in 2008 the normal eagle design will once again be on the reverse side of the quarter.

What makes this coin series different from all others in the past is that each state gets to select the design for their own states quarter with the Governor of each state determining the selection process. While some states appoint design committees other states like Michigan and Vermont have contests that any resident can enter.

In Missouri people voted via the Internet for their favorite design with almost 180,000 people voting while other states had the Governor making the final choice based on several designs.

Since these coins are in great demand and will never be minted again prices of the state quarters have been increasing and some of the early state coins are worth $1.00 or more depending on condition. A specialty area of coin collecting known as error coins has also been able to participate with some flawed coins going for up to $500.

A whole new business has cropped up revolving around the state quarters program with many products like specialty coin holders enjoying immense popularity. Probably the most familiar example of this would be the United States map quarter holder. These holders are in the shape of a map of the U.S. and have places in each state for that states quarter to proudly reside. They also usually have little state facts printed by them which make for a great learning experience.

The State Quarters Program is an ideal way for anyone wanting to start collecting coins to get their feet wet, especially youngsters. Its easy, inexpensive and you get a little dose of history as well.

Shipping the Problem Elsewhere

I was reading a recent survey that said if given the choice, most people would rather get increased healthcare coverage than a pay raise. We in the industry know it's a mess and that many people delay getting treatment for fear of depleting their savings. The current state of healthcare in America can literally be deadly.

Which is why I wasn't surprised to read an article that stated many patients are now going overseas for their healthcare. Get a load of this:

"Carl Garrett of Leicester, N.C., will fly to a state-of-the-art New Delhi hospital in September for surgeries to remove gallstones and to fix an overworn rotator cuff. His employer, Blue Ridge Paper Products Inc. of Canton, N.C., will pay for it all, including airfare for Garrett and his fiancee. The company also will give Garrett a share of the expected savings, up to $10,000, when he returns. "

That's right! We're not only shipping jobs overseas, we're now shipping patients there, too! Of course, if this trend continues, we will essentially be sending jobs for medical professionals overseas by default.

I don't know about you, but this embarrasses me deeply. I didn't get into healthcare management to only help treat the people who were lucky enough to have coverage or could afford it. Ill health doesn't discriminate, it potentially affects us all, and the longer we let the situation get out of hand, the more bizarre and defeating solutions will be found by companies and individuals who are fed up with the status quo.

I got a good response to a previous article about people going overseas for medical procedures because it costs less. If you don't mind, I'd like to respond to some of the comments.

The first commenter said:

"...like you, (I) entered healthcare management (twenty years in hospital administration, consulting and eight managing medical practices)to help based on my non clinical skills. I worked largely in innercity hospitals and then transitioned to medical practice management. There I became more jaundiced with the attitudes of specialty physicians. Behind the scenes the focus of a surprising number of doctors was on paying patients, although periodically altrusim did shine through. I had to look carefully for the quiet ones who took care of patients and did not bluster at the closed door business meetings. When things got tough they would speak up, but only when really pushed. Rhetorically, I wonder why organized medicine, and our lofty management societies and associations don't focus more on the caring side, the professional side, the hippocratic side."

Here again, someone says it better than I can. Another reader makes a good point based on experience:

"Why would H/care be exempt from the global marketplace? Health care services are a product that is consumed by consumers (patients). Accordingly, patients will shop for services. Consumerism in health care has been a long time coming. For instance, my family went to Colombia to get dental work done for a fraction of what it would cost here, and we managed to add in a vacation. Now the one thing to consider, is what if there are complications, is the company going to fly the employee back to resolve the complication? (Probably not)."

Actually, I don't blame the patients for taking advantage of better deals in other countries. Your trip to Colombia sounds like a marvelous combination of business and pleasure, although I wonder if your vacation wasn't affected by the dental work! Still, you ask a great question at the end, and while I'd suppose it depends on the company and the agreement worked out in advance, another reader makes this excellent point:

"You got it right when you said 'COMPLICATIONS'. Try suing the doctor overseas and see how far you get. The malpractice piece is a large part of our health care dollar."

Then there was this comment by Lifeline Medical Associates President/CEO Jack Feltz that eloquently summed up the frustrations he experiences heading the largest provider of women's healthcare in New Jersey:

"One of the biggest wastes of resources is practicing defensive medicine because of the medical liability crisis and lack of meaningful tort reform in New Jersey and elsewhere. Physicians, I believe tend to order more and more tests because they are frightened not to. If there is a bad outcome you can bet there will be an attorney and expert to say they should have ordered every test imaginable. This is tragic, making health care unaffordable. I would rather see these wasted dollars go towards cures for breast cancer, immunizing poor children, improving care and keeping healthcare in the hands of expert doctors and nurses in the U.S.A."

I think you make an excellent point, Jack (may I call you "Jack?"). If only more CEO's had your sense of compassion. I often forget the legal part of the equation because I am so frequently enmeshed in battles with insurance carriers. Or to again quote yet another reader who says it better than I can:

"Insurance carriers are problematic, and don't pay or delay paying claims, and then don't pay them according to the appropriate fee schedule. This means patients get billed eventually for services that should have been covered. Unhappy patients complain to employers about coverage. Employers decide to go elsewhere. This doesn't reflect on American physicians, it reflects on American insurance carriers. "

Exactly. Personally, I think the solution to our healthcare crisis will have to combine tort reform with insurance reform. Outsourcing illness is a symptom of a diseased system. In the end, our political representatives will have to summon the will to play doctor and cure this problem. As I noted in my previous post, their inaction on this issue is deadly.

Canadian Fishing Trips

The time is now and you are getting ready for a fishing trip to Canada with your friends and coworkers. There are about 15 of you planning to head out and leave your jobs, wives and children behind for an opportunity to go fishing in Canada.

Most people think that when men go off on a fishing trip to anywhere whether in Canada or the States, that they are going off to smoke their pipes and cigars, drink beer and tell tall tales to each other.

In fact, a Canada fishing trip can be like that, but if you are true sportsman, you are going all that way to actually fish. The opportunity to be out in nature where you can relax and let go of the daily stress you endure with your jobs is just one of the many benefits you will derive.

Ever since you were a small boy, you have been fishing in the local river or streams within in your State. Now, you want to have an opportunity to go on a real fishing trip and Canada is your choice for this adventure. You have read that there are more than 100,000 lakes where you can fish for many different species. You can test your wits against salmon, muskie, trout or dozens of other speciesall depending upon the location you choose for your Canadian fishing trip.

Figure out which type of fish you are interested in catching and then determine which province in Canada can meet your needs. Remember that Canada is much bigger than most people think and your options on where and when to have your Canadian fishing trip are unlimited.

Depending on how rugged you want to be, you can plan to camp out in the wilderness, you can rent a full-service recreational vehicle, stay at a lodge or outpost when you go to Canada. They are all geared to helping the sportsmen get the most out of their fishing trip. In fact, if you want to take your family along, many of these options will also work well with the wife and children.

You might want to consider hiring an outfitter to help you coordinate the little details you may have not have considered. The outfitter should be able to help you through any bureaucratic rules of the region, obtain fishing licenses and take care of any other little problems that might come up.

Remember that your Canadian fishing trip will only be as good as you make it. Be realistic and plan ahead for what you want to do, when you want to do it, and be ready to make adjustments to your plans. Uncooperative weather, fish not biting, or any other problems may pop up. Just try to relax and enjoy yourself and know that this Canadian fishing trip is just the first of many that you will take over the next few years.

Understanding Cancer Statistics - A Patient's Guide

Medicine is a field which is based on statistical analysis of thousands of patient outcomes. This is very apparent in the field of cancer treatment.

In order to research and evaluate various cancer treatments, its important to be able to understand some medical statistical terms. The goal of this article is to help you comprehend some of the more commonly used medical statistical terms.

The exact outcome of any particular patients is, of course, impossible to predict with any degree of certainty. The reality is that cancer mortality rates are based on the statistical analysis of a large number of patients who have had the same cancer. Remember, medical statistics are only probabilities.

Every particular type of cancer has different outcome statistics. Some cancers clearly have worse prognoses than others.

Its also important to be aware that the probability of being cured from a particular cancer depends very much on the stage of the cancer.

In all forms of cancers, the survival rates of patients with stage 1 disease exceed the survival rates of patients with stage 2 disease. Similarly, the survival rates of patients with patients with stage 2 disease exceed the survival rates of patients with stage 3 disease. Finally, the survival rates of patients with patients with stage 3 cancer exceed the survival rates of patients with stage 4 cancer.

Thus, being aware of the stage of the disease you have is critical.

Here then is a brief list of some of the more common medical statistical terms.

Five Year Survival

When doctors discuss the probability of survival, they discuss a term thats known as the 5 year survival. The 5 year survival represents the probability that someone with a particular cancer will be alive five years after diagnosis.

As an example, if the 5 year survival is 25%, this means that the odds of being alive after 5 years are 25%. To be sure that this term is being used accurately, its necessary to look at the actual type of patients for whom the 5 year survival number is being quoted. For example, it might include all patients with a certain type of cancer or it could only involve patients with a certain stage of that cancer.

For example, 49 percent, or about half, of people diagnosed with early-stage lung cancer live for at least five years after diagnosis. So, the five year survival for patients with early-stage lung cancer is 49%. In contrast, the five year survival rate for patients diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer (lung cancer that has widely spread or metastasized to other areas of the body) is only 3 percent.

Thus, its critical to know the survival rate for patients with the same stage of disease.

Remission

Shrinking of a cancer is referred to as remission.

There are remissions which are known as complete remissions those which are known as partial remissions. Remissions are called either complete or partial depending on whether or not any trace of cancer remains. If no evidence of cancer can be found after treatment, then the remission is considered complete.

If the cancer has decreased in size but hasnt disappeared completely, then the remission is considered to be partial.

A complete remission may represent a cure. But the possibility exists that the cancer will regrow. This depends usually to a great extent on the type of cancer as some cancers have more of a tendency to regrow than others. In people who achieve only partial remissions, the cancer nearly always regrows.

The 5 year survival rate predicts the percentage of patients that will be alive at the end of 5 years. It doesnt predict however the number of patients that will be in complete remission at the end of 5 years (in other words how many people will have survived for 5 years and have no evidence of cancer).

So here are two more specific terms:

Disease-free 5 year Survival Rate

This term refers to the percentage of patients who are not only alive after 5 years but are in complete remission.

Progression-free 5 Survival Rate

This term refers to the percentage of patients who are alive after 5 years but who still have evidence of cancer, although the cancer isn't progressing. This category includes patients who may have had some success with treatment but not enough to completely eliminate the cancer.

Two other statistical terms that are important to understand are relative risk and absolute risk:

Absolute Risk Reduction Or Benefit

This term refers to the absolute difference in results between treatments. So, for example, if treatment A increased survival by 12% and treatment B increased survival by 10% then treatment A resulted in an absolute benefit of (12%-10%) = 2%.

Relative Risk Reduction Or Benefit

This term refers to the relative difference in results between alternatives. In the example above, the relative benefit is (12%-10%)/10% = 20%. This number is calculated by taking the difference in outcome as a percentage.

Frequently, results are presented as relative risk reduction or benefit rather than absolute risk reduction or benefit because the numbers sound more impressive when presented in this fashion. For example, in the example above, a relative benefit of 20% sounds more impressive than an absolute benefit of 2%.

Hopefully, you now have a better understanding about how to interpret cancer statistics.

Leather trimmed seats and armrests, heated front seats, body-colored side mirrors and door handles, XM Satellite Radio, available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation with Voice Recognition(TM) and rearview camera, AM/FM/6-disc center console CD changer audio system with seven speakers including subwoofer (with navigation)

The Enhanced Body Design is entirely new. The exterior width has increased by 1.4 inches to 71.6 inches while the body length has decreased by 3.1 inches (due mostly to the relocation of the spare tire from the rear bumper to underneath the rear cargo area). The length of the vehicle minus the spare tire remains nearly the same.

The unit-body construction features extensive use of strategically strengthened areas with expanded use of high strength steel to provide high levels of rigidity. Improved NVH was also targeted and the new model features extensive use of the latest noise absorption materials to help reduce engine and road noise for an ultra-quiet cabin.

Sedan-like Performance, SUV Versatility

The CR-V uses a compact platform that features the safety-enhancing ACE Body Structure. It also provides extremely high levels of rigidity and an independent front and rear suspension for handling performance, which also results in space-efficient packaging. Comprised of a front MacPherson strut layout and a rear multi-link suspension, the highly rigid body and independent suspension offer an engaging driving experience rare for this class of vehicle.

Refined and Efficient Powertrain

The CR-V is powered by Honda's 2.4-liter, Dual-Over Head Cam, i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine that offers refined and responsive performance with good fuel economy (estimated mid 20's combined) and low emissions (CARB LEV II ULEV). A 5-speed automatic transmission is standard equipment on all CR-Vs, and a traction-enhancing Real Time 4WD system is available.

The engine produces 166 horsepower and 161 lb-ft. of torque - a 10-horsepower increase and a broader torque curve compared to the 2006 CR-V. The power upgrade is attributable to a slight increase in compression ratio and enhanced valvetrain, intake and exhaust tuning. From a refinement standpoint, the Drive-by-Wire (DBW) throttle control works closely with the transmission for extremely smooth shift points and intuitive gear holding on hilly roads.

Overall, the CR-V four-wheel drive system is designed to best match the way the majority of driving situations that most SUV's realistically encounter. The fully automatic Real Time 4WD system (available) enhances the CR-V's all-weather capabilities when driving in rain, snow, dirt roads and sandy conditions - without the significant weight, fuel economy and handling performance drawbacks of a conventional four-wheel-drive system. For 2007, enhancements have been made to the system for improved torque transfer to the rear wheels - making the CR-V even better in rain, snow and sand.

Sports Betting Odds

Sports betting odds can be defined as the likelihood of an outcome occurring that is stated in a number form. The main basis of the wager is the straight up outcome, which is not in to a point spread. In sports betting odds, the odds are termed as MONEYLINE.The sports betting odds there are no point spread for many of the sports such as boxing, tennis etc as there occur no way to measure the points or score in which the player wins or loses by. In such sports like boxing, the only thing that counts is who wins and who loses, and in such cases, the money line wagering enters in!

In sports betting line, money line is like point spread that is used to equal the attractiveness of the favorite and the underdog for the person betting. Money line in sports betting odds is decided by the event winner with no regard to the point spread as there is occurs no point spread. The sports betting odds makers set the money line, as more money must be risked for the favorite or the person expected to win and very less on the underdog or the person more likely to lose, so that there occurs a balance between both sides of the contest.

In college, also sports betting odds have taken reign even though it might be considered illegal by many. In sports betting odds, such as football odds is becoming more vibrant each year. This field is considered as a way to make huge profits if the person is a smart bettor who has practiced proper money management. The bookies set a lot of numbers by keeping the public in mind and the person who begins to study can understand easily as to how the person can gain more and on the numbers set by the bookies.

In sports betting odds, the odds are made not by the common people. It is an entirely different case in sports betting odds, as about 75% of odds are established for the licensed Sports Books in Nevada as well as for Oregon State Lottery by Las Vegas Sports Consultant Inc, which is run by Michael 'Roxy Roxborough. Apart from this, he also works as a consultant on gaming management, strategies, personnel and marketing. And most of the illegal books of Nevada draw their odds from casinos. In sports betting odds, there are many things, which are illegal such as transmitting information on gambling across the state for placing, or taking bets is considered illegal. But even then, there occur many loopholes through which people play their own gaming!

Should You Get A New Or Used Van For Your Business?

Is your business expanding? Do you need additional transport in order to deliver your products to clients, or to carry equipment so that you can make site visits?

If youre business is successful and you want to reach more people, then you need to think about getting a van or other commercial vehicle. The flexibility and service levels that you can offer when you are mobile means that you can develop your business into one that stands out from the competition which, in turn, can make your business even more successful.

If youve decided you need transport for your business, the next move is to work out how much you can afford to pay and what you can get for your money. You also need to think about why you want your van and what youre going to be using it for. All these factors combine to determine what sort of vehicle you need.

Large or small?

Some businesses, such as florists, grocers or small caterers, just require a mini-van or a small car derivative van (CDV), whereas plumbers, electricians and other tradesmen may prefer a larger CDV or a panel van, which has more space for storing larger pieces of equipment. Builders, scaffolders, garden centres and other businesses that need easy loading and unloading access often choose a pick-up truck or high-sided van, whilst removal companies and those delivering larger items such as furniture or industrial equipment need much larger vans or trucks. The size of commercial vehicle you need is nearly always determined by what you will be carrying or delivering in it and you need to take this into account before you buy.

New or used?

Its always nice to buy a new vehicle. With perhaps only a few miles on the clock and perfectly clean upholstery and interiors, new wheels and the latest features, a new van or truck is very tempting. A shiny new vehicle gives a good impression of your business and makes you feel good as well. Costs are high, however, and your new van could lose a lot of its value within a year or so.

Many businesses consider used vans for this reason. Substantially cheaper than their newer counterparts, they can be in excellent condition and come with some great deals such as warranties, safety checks and insurance. The commercial vehicle market is competitive and benefits come to used van buyers who get vehicles in excellent condition and with great features for a much smaller price.

Swift Bank To Comply Slower

Just when George Bush was winning a victory in the Senate for the right to handle terrorists in a moderately terrifying way, it looks as if he can expect slower help from Swift, the Belgian banking consortium known as the letterhead-heavy Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications.

The banking group was reprimanded by Belgiums privacy protection commission for aiding the US counterterrorism effort by providing confidential data about money transfers.

The commissions report stated, It has to be seen as a gross miscalculation by Swift that it has, for years, secretly and systematically transferred massive amounts of personal data for surveillance without effective and clear legal basis and independent controls in line with Belgian and European law.

On a swifter note, Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt of Belgium, who presented the report, admitted that sharing such information is essential to curbing terrorism. He sounded more intent that European privacy rules would be respected, saying, Swift finds itself in a conflicting position between American and European law. But it should have received stronger guarantees of privacy protection based on European standards not by American standards, which are not as strong.

While Swift dismissed criticism, maintaining it had assurances the data would be used only in regard to the investigation of terrorism, the CEO, Leonard Schrank, essentially threw up his arms, noting, We need an agreement between the E.U. and the U.S. that recognizes the global threat of terrorism but has a comfort level for those seeking to guarantee data protection. We are caught between complying with the U.S. and European rules, and its a train wreck. But what we have done saves lives in the U.S. and Europe and we must not lose sight of that.

His outfit really is between a rock and hard place. While based in Belgium, it does significant business in the US. So, whether or not the Euros like it, Swift is obliged to obey subpoenas from US authorities.

How many wrinkles will terrorism make in the orderly operations of the comparatively civilized world and how disruptive will they become? Only Allah knows.

How To Avoid Paying Inflated Airfares During Holiday Season

Being a contrarian traveler, that is, doing the opposite of what the majority of people are doing is a smart way to save money on airfares. The theory in this being that while everybody is traveling one way, for example heading back home at the end of their winter vacations to Thailand, the planes going back to Thailand would be relatively empty. This creates an opportunity for the savvy traveler to take advantage of reduced airfares as airlines scramble to fill as many seats as possible.

Unfortunately we are not all able to travel when we want and work commitments may dictate that we must take our holidays at the same time as everybody else. This is where the laws of supply and demand kick in and the airlines and hotels crank up their prices.

But what if you really wanted or needed to travel at a time that was a peak travel time in your country? Do you just have to bite the bullet and pay the inflated prices?

Fortunately there is a strategy which allows you to both travel to and return from popular destinations at the same peak times as everyone else, without having to pay pumped-up holiday fares.

Lets take Bangkok as an example because it is an extremely popular holiday destination and it is also one of the cheapest places in the world right now to purchase airfare tickets- a fact whose relevance will become clear in just a moment.

Lets say its May and I am going to take a short 5 day trip to Bangkok, on a business trip or to visit friends. Ive also decided that I want to take a vacation at the end of the year. I will not be able to depart until December 22nd, peak travel season. Unfortunately leaving between mid-December and mid-January will cost me pretty close to double the regular fare. Forward planning being one of the fundamentals of saving money on travel, knowing my end-of-year travel dates will enable me to save a lot of money.

What I do is instead of buying a 5 day return ticket for my May trip, I buy a one year open with the return date of the ticket sometime in January when I want to come home from my end of year vacation. Upon arriving in Bangkok I put this ticket away in my suitcase and purchase a second ticket from Bangkok to my original point of departure, or my home city. The return portion of this ticket (and this is the crucial part of the plan) is set to December 22nd.

This works because each airline in each country determines their fares from the point of departure. What this means is that the return date does not have as big an influence on the fare as the departure date. Basically they dont care if the return section of your ticket is in a peak period in the country you are coming back from.

One year open tickets are a little more expensive than your regular 7- 30 day open tickets, however you should look into this option and you may find substantial savings doing it this way than paying the inflated peak time airfares that the airlines charge.

Long Live Halloween!

The scent of fall is in the air and the colors of the season are gracing our landscapes. Know what that means? Halloween is right around the corner! Children everywhere are counting the weeks until this festive day arrives while parents wonder if their children should be allowed to trick or treat and whether today's world is safe enough for the Halloween traditions of days gone by.

Well I say LONG LIVE HALLOWEEN! How can we deny our children the only day of the year when they are allowed to run up and down the street begging neighbors for candy? How can we deny them the pleasure of dressing up as superheroes and princesses and gallivanting around a neighborhood that's been transformed into a one-night fantasy land?

While I believe Halloween should be enjoyed, I do believe we should take some safety measures to ensure our children have a safe Halloween in addition to having a fun one.

A Watchful Eye.

If you have young children who will be trick-or-treating this year, you need to realize that we live in a changing society. You need to keep a very close eye on your children and that means following along (even if from a few feet behind) as your children go door to door on their trick-or-treating mission.

Setting Ground Rules.

Halloween isn't the time for a free-for-all. You need to set some ground rules. Let your children know what's acceptable, what's not, and what you expect from them in regard to their behavior. If the rules are laid out up front, there will be less confusion and, hopefully, less frustration all around.

Bright Clothing or Reflectors.

It can seem like kids are swarming through the neighborhoods on Halloween night. Drivers need to be especially careful, but not all are as careful as they should be. Because of this, you need to take extra precautions. Don't let your children cross the street without you and when you do cross the street, make sure you have reflective clothing or a glow-in-the-dark nightstick with you.

Candy Checks.

As sad as it may be, you do need to check your child's candy after they bring in the haul. Look for anything out of the ordinary. Throw away any unwrapped items, items with wrappers that look as if they've been tampered with, etc. And take care that not too much of the good stuff is eaten all in one sitting!

So is Halloween a dying holiday? Absolutely not! You just need to take the time to lay out ground rules and practice proper safety, and Halloween can be as much fun this year as it was when you were a kid! Watch out for those ghosts and goblins!

Microwave Convection Ovens: For Tasty & Nutritious Meal

Microwave ovens help cook any food with amazing speed. The convection facility in a microwave oven allows a 'airflow' circulation that heats up any food in less time using much less electricity.

Cooking in microwave ovens is a lot faster than conventional methods of cooking. The oven operates at much lower temperatures and reduces 20% of cooking time compared to other ovens.

With microwave cooking, nutrients are preserved and the actual taste of the food remains intact. Only a minimum quantity of oil is required to cook any dish.

Food cooked in microwave convection ovens is as nutritious as food cooked in other ways, and studies suggest that microwave ovens retains more vitamins, minerals and nutrients than boiling. Nutrients like vitamin A and E are less likely to be destroyed. This is good for health.

Microwave ovens are easy to clean and maintain. Clean the exterior part by wiping it with a damp cloth. The interior portion should be cleaned with a cloth soaked in warm soapy water.

There are some misconceptions though, about microwave ovens:

Microwave energy changes the chemical composition of food.

- But there is no evidence of poisonous or dangerous compounds created by microwave convection ovens.

Eating food cooked in the microwave exposes you to radiation.

- As soon as the oven is switched off, there are no longer any microwaves in the oven or the food. There is no evidence that microwave exposure, at any level, either causes or promotes cancer and other radioactive diseases.

Besides these, another argument against microwave ovens is that, food doesn't get heated evenly, which means there are cold spots and hot spots. Bacteria and other microorganisms can flourish in the cold spots.

- But this argument can be countered too. Smaller portions cook more evenly than large portions. Thorough heating is possible, simply by chopping the food into small and similar sized chunks.

You can also ensure a more even temperature, by using shallow and round containers, rather than the square and high-topped containers in the commercial convection ovens.

There are different kinds of microwave ovens in the market. Some noteworthy are Merrychef microwave ovens, Panasonic commercial microwave, commercial pizza ovens... Get one today and serve yourself, your family, friends & guests with tasty, healthy and delicious food!

Las Vegas Academys Series of Short Plays Showcases Student Talent in Las Vegas Schools

Las Vegas Academy, one of the magnet schools of the Las Vegas Public School District, has prepared a series of student produced and student led theater performances.

The Five Plays

You Want Freedom Fries With That?
An original theater piece about being an American teenager in an increasingly small world, written and conceived by the Roncalli Drama Festival Ensemble, performed at the Roncalli Drama Festival in Poggibonsi, Siena, Italy, in the heart of Tuscany.

Mixed Babies
Five teenage girls of color discuss life, love, relationships, and friendship in this compelling short play.

Coffee Con Carnage
An original sketch conceived and performed by the students of the Mime and Improvisation Class.

Sorry, Wrong Number
A classic one act thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The Intermission
A playwright listens clandestinely to the reactions of the intermission crowd at the premiere of his new play: a surprisingly insightful look at how we perceive what others think about our art.

History of the Las Vegas Academy

Established in 1992 by the Las Vegas Public School District and area universities, the Las Vegas Academy is committed to fostering student skills in the arts and communication. This magnet school includes students from all over Clark County at its campus in an historic urban shopping district.

Las Vegas Schools students pursue a major in one of the following fields: dance, vocal music, instrumental music, international studies, piano, theater, theater technology, and visual arts. The school operates longer than other schools in the area in order to pack in all the subjects that students need to study in this arts intensive program. Classes are organized on a block schedule, in which students take regular academic classes every other day and major classes every day.

This aggressive approach to education has earned the Las Vegas Academy many honors, both state and nationwide. Including awards from the White House, Senators Reid, Bryan, and Ensign, former Governor Miler and former Las Vegas mayor Jones, the Academy has also garnered attention from the International Network of Performing and Visual Arts schools and been labeled a STAR school. In addition to winning three Grammy Signature School awards, the Academy has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as both a New American High School and a U.S. Blue Ribbon School.

The Student Experience at Las Vegas Academy

Students of the Las Vegas Academy compete through a tough screening process just to attend, including an audition as well as maintaining a high grade point average in their regular academic subjects. While students at other area high schools attend class for 50 minutes a day, students at Las Vegas Academy go for 86 minutes. The school day also goes one hour longer overall. This hard work pays off with over sixty percent of graduates enrolling in four year universities. The series of short plays to be produced by the theater and theater technology departments will be just one of many ways in which Las Vegas Academy students present their hard work and dedication to the local community.

Choosing the right Tailgating Grill

If you are planning a tailgate party you need a few things, good people, good drinks, and a good grill. There are a few things that you need to consider before choosing a grill for your next tailgate party.

Camp Stoves:

Camp Stoves are a great addition to Tailgaters due to its ability to do many different things. First off Camp Stoves are not grills. It is just a way to have an open flame that is regulated and controlled. Camp Stoves are not meant to grill burgers and hotdogs by themselves. There are some accessories that must be bought before this can happen. If you are looking for a grill to make hamburgers, hotdogs, or anything else that can be grilled directly on the grill check out our Table Top Grills, or Portable Grills.

Camp Stoves are meant to be used at if it were an outdoor kitchen stove. You can use pots and pans, skittles, dutch ovens, or anything else that you usually use on a regular stove. Of course you can purchase grill attachments for direct grilling. Camp Stoves can make a simple hamburger and hotdog tailgate into a gourmet tailgate with stews, chili, boiled shrimp, or lobster (yes lobster check out Gillette stadium tailgaters), and anything else you can cook up, imagine, and feast upon.

Table Top Grills:

Tabletop grills are great for a quick set up with a picnic table, setting on the ground, or tailgate. These are small and portable which makes them very diverse and useable. Some are designed more for grilling, some more for using with pots and pans. Either way these are great for setting up quickly, getting the food cooked, cooling off quickly and stowing, so that you can get into your event quickly. They are also for those who are looking for the least amount of cleanup, and work to be done.

Portable Grills:

Portable grills are for the serious tailgater. Portable grills offer a wide range of uses, from skillet cooking to grilling burgers, and hot dogs, to dutch oven use; to anything that can be fried, cooked, grilled, and ate. Portable grills are easy to set up, and easy to take down. Pull the grill out of the trunk or back of the truck, set up quickly, get your food, and get going. Have fun, eat well, and be happy.

Backpack Grills:

Backpack grills are our most highly portable grills we have found. Most are simply single burner stoves meant to head up a pot, pan or skillet. These are great little grills for a quick small tailgate party, or to just pull over on the side of the road on a long trip and have an impromptu tailgate lunch party. You never know when a tailgating mood will hit, and these ultra portable grills will let you tailgate in any spot.

So what we have found is that you have to first decide what kind of party you are going to have. Then you will be able to quickly and easily decide what kind of grill is best for you.

Have fun, Cook Well, and Tailgate the right way

They Can Get You Where You Live

Most people have a pre-conceived notion that if there computer has a firewall or the latest anti-virus protection they are completely safe from hackers. This is simply not true.

It doesnt matter if you have a firewall or not. Sure, it blocks some unwanted intrusion to your computer but it cant block them all because of the very nature of the system. Just like a tiny bug that comes from outside and enters your home all it needs is the smallest opening and its there! Web traffic has to pass through firewalls to access your computer and even the best firewalls cannot process all the hugh amounts of inbound information.

Before a hacker can hack they have to talk to a computer in its own native tongue. Much of the time its HTML (hypertext markup language), but it can be Java, XML, Perl or a number of others. Most successful hackers have much more than a basic knowledge of computer languages as well as how security systems function. A hacker can be anybody with enough knowledge of computer languages and a great deal of computer savvy to look at a URL string and read between the lines. All a hacker needs to do is request information from web sites, servers or PCs using there unique knowledge of computer languages by using simple-well placed codes that may seen trivial yet extract a great deal of what you thought was secure information about you or your business. A hacker can, with persistence get administrative control of a web page and do just about anything to it like changing colors, graphic, text or Meta tags.

The only tools a hacker needs is an internet browser and a target URL. Broadly speaking a URL structure is: Protocol://sever/path/to/resourse?parameters This roughly translates to: http://targetsite.com/directory/files

When you open your browser to a web page whats viewed is what the browser interprets and displays. There is an ocean of information behind the pictures and text. On a typical web page, not readily available to the human eye but can be found none the less is information such as the HTML source code, source code keywords, hidden parameters, hyperlinks and a whole lot more. The more a hacker knows the better they can plan an attack. These people are very good at tricking a web server to release a source code for an application or script without it being executed. With enough prodding and poking at a web server they can view the original source code of the HTML content generated by the script. The method of attack will depend on what the hacker learns from the information accumulated from the server side, browser or client side.

Protocols

HTTPS is a protocol used for encrypted traffic within an HTTP stream. HTTPS is mainly used by sites that offer security where credit card and bank account numbers are used. Another level of security is the Secure Sockets Layer set of protocols (SSL) that has become a standard way to communicate between a web browser and a web site when a high level of security is needed. Not only that, but it can help secure e-mail, file downloads, and chat line conversations by using File Transfer Protocols (FTP) that works with SSL. Without this type of security in place it is relatively easy for someone to read the information you are transmitting. The thing to know here is that SSL only secures information in transit (between computer and website). It does not and will not guarantee security at your end and the site you are viewing! You will have to trust security measures at the site you are viewing and rely on your own computers virus and firewall protection. SSL uses a symmetric key cryptography for encryption, meaning the client and server uses the same key to encrypt and decrypt communication. If a hacker can decode the encryption key they can decipher the message coming in and going out.

Cookies

Many sites you visit will set a cookie on your system when you view that site. The purpose of cookies is to give you easier and faster access to the sites resources and to identify you later if you choose to purchase a product from them. This cookie will keep your personal information such as name, address and credit card number on their file in case you visit them again at a later date. The site itself has its own cookie system with the same personal information so when some user logs in they know who they are, what was ordered previously and what credit card was used so they can give you the use same and credit card? option. Because a lot of websites have security vulnerabilities hackers can view there cookies and retrieve credit card numbers and other personal info. Most web browsers let a user delete cookies on there system, either all of them or manually but they are still on the website visited. A common problem is if you punch in http://buyitnowsite.com and it sets up a cookie on your system, the creator of that cookie may have specified the domain type as site.com rather than buyitnow.com. Your browser then will offer up that cookie to any page in the same domain like virusdownloadsite.com (for example) or any site that you visit which may not have good intentions for you. This can lead to other sites having access to your personal information not intended for them. This could have been prevented if the technician who created that cookie made it specific enough to include the whole site name (buyitnow) in the coding. Really cookies are not intended to store information like user names and passwords, but unfortunately it is a common practice with websites and a hacker can view this information when infiltrating them. The best way to combat against cookie threats is through cookie management software that gives you full control over the use of cookies, which should include:

* Disable the sending and saving of cookies

* Notification before a cookie is sent

* Control of sending and receiving cookies based on the domain

* Look at and delete the contents of cookies

Most internet browser should give you a whole lot more options for cookies in the advanced tab or you can buy cookie software to have complete and easy access over all cookies.

I have mentioned here only a few areas of concern on protecting computer systems and internet browsing but there are others left untouched due to space ( one could write a book on the subject) but I hope you can see we are at more risk than you think. Because many of us have so easy access to the internet like an always on connection computers and servers will always be a target for hackers. Also the speed of connecting increases the risk of attack and the harder it will be to filter that access and make it harder for hackers. Even though we may never be completely safe from hackers there are things we can do to make there job harder. Never store personal information (passwords, credit card numbers) on your PC; instead use a floppy dick or CD for your private information and eject it from your PC when done. A general rule on firewalls is to block all incoming traffic that you didnt initiate. Dont run applications you are not familiar with and take what you download! Most important is to backup everything on your computer and make a bootable disk that you know is clean from infection.

Buenos Aires Tour Guide: Recoleta

When Buenos Aires was still just a small cluster of buildings on the Rio de la Plata, a group of Franciscan monks, known as the Padres Recoletos, established a chapel and retreat in an area of the countryside north of the city. The Recoleta sanctuary marked the high ground of the Ro de la Plata valley, which was why, in the second part of the 19th century with crowded living conditions and stagnant water in San Telmo giving rise to a series of plagues Buenos Aires richer citizens decided to flee their former barrio and move there instead.

Recoleta, to this day, is Buenos Aires most elite neighborhood, and, thanks in large parts to the efforts of the 19th century French landscaping artist Charles Thay, it has also remained green a series of parks and plazas parallel Recoletas wide avenues and grace its belle-poque buildings with shady tree limbs. The neighborhood is arranged according to a gradient, with the most expensive real estate in the area immediately bordering Avenida del Libertador. The residential blocks surrounding Avenida Santa Fe, meanwhile, while still firmly upper-middle class, lack the former areas ostentatiousness and forebodingness.

For a quick glimpse of the most ornate luxury environs in Argentina typical of Avenida del Libertador posh take a walk down Avenida Alvear. The Alvear Palace Hotel, with its chandeliered lobbies, is an example of Recoletas palacio architecture and is the citys most exclusive five-star hotel.

Plaza Francia, at the end of the avenue, is more relaxed. Its home to a weekend handcrafted goods fair and on the weekdays is a great place to sprawl out on the grass. The Centro Cultural Recoleta, on the Plaza, houses temporary art exhibitions which are normally of minimal cost or even free, and the Recoleta Cemetery is a must-see for visitors. You can find Evitas tomb by looking at the map by the Cemeterys entrance gate.

Avenida Santa Fe, meanwhile, is the place in Buenos Aires to go shopping. Shoes and clothing, by Argentine and international designers, are in plentiful supply and at a fraction of the price they would cost in your home country.

Scott Ferree is a translator and English instructor, as well as the study abroad coordinator for the Interhispanica Language School in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The school is located in the Recoleta neighborhood, near Avenida Santa Fe: http://www.interhispanica.com.arClaudette Blog87954

Volvo Wraps Safety And Vitality In A Startling Car

Volvo flaunts its all-new sport sedan with a groundbreaking interior design, excellent safety, plus powertrains that include five-cylinder engines, all-wheel drive and a six-speed transmission. Those are the reasons why Volvo S40 is seizing attention and commendations from experts and enthusiasts alike. Said car was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

All-new Volvo S40 is the replacement of the current S40 which was launched in Europe in the year 1995. The latest addition is made up of enhanced Volvo S40 parts to improve its look, feel and performance.

"The center console is a design icon for the new Volvo S40," says Henrik Otto, Design Director at Volvo Cars. Otto further added, "We intend to pursue our position as inaugurators in the car design world, not looking at what our competitors are doing. It is therefore far more valuable to keep an eye on what they're not doing." From its exterior to its interior, Volvo S40 is unmistakably an evolved version of Volvo. Said evolution of design and performance it attributed to the extraordinary design language which creates an aura of simplicity, space and exclusivity.

S40 uses high-tensile steel to suit its structure and built and to promote safety of the passengers. It also uses Volvo's Intelligent Vehicle Architecture (VIVA), which represents a new approach to vehicle safety design. "Naturally, our goal is that the new Volvo S40 should be the safest car in its class," says Volvo Cars President & CEO Hans-Olov Olsson.

Volvo S40 is primarily aimed to expand the car’s appeal so as to cater to the demands of the young generation of buyers not just the customary vehicle buyers. "We want to attract customers into the Volvo family as early as possible, and the new Volvo S40 will definitely appeal to younger buyers. With the new Volvo S40, we now offer our customers large-car benefits across the entire line. This, combined with an exciting design and exceptional road manners, makes the new S40 a highly potent challenger in this segment," explains Olsson.

Kenneth McKinley is a 35-year old marketing specialist of voparts.com, a leading Volvo parts dealer in the country today. Working in the car parts industry for a long time now and being a car enthusiast himself gives him a wealth of knowledge on anything automotive. Courtnay Blog61229

Concealing the Talon Mini Stun Gun

At only 4 inches tall, the Talon Mini is easily concealable, yet extremely powerful! Packing 80,000 volts of non-lethal knock down power, this device is a must for anyone seeking affordable, effective, and concealable protection. What other type of reliable, safe, personal protection can be obtained for the price of a set of wiper blades? Personal protection has, more and more, become a topic of concern to the average American citizen. Growing populations and overextended police forces have left many individuals to fend for themselves in difficult areas. Crime in the United States has been on the increase for many decades, and especially in the area of crimes against persons. Desperate and predatory individuals have increasingly targeted either focus groups or prime areas to commit their acts of treachery. According to the U. S. Department of Justice, for every 1000 people over the age of 12 in the U. S., there was one rape or sexual assault, one assault with injury, and 3 robberies in 2005!

The simple math of these numbers is really staggering, if you think about the personal tragedy and damage done to each of these individuals. Essentially, in a town of 50,000 people there is an average of 50 rapes, 50 assaults, and 150 robberies each year! Of course a larger percentage of these crimes occur in big cities, but this is simply a lot of real people being hurt. These folks are our teachers, neighbors, relatives, and hairdressers! The statistics of crime do not fully paint a true portrait of the personal injury and loss we feel the closer crime strikes to home. Any victim will tell you that being violated by criminals is perhaps the most life altering event they have experienced, save that of devastating illness. Ultimately, we are all responsible for our own safety and that of our family. The good news is that there are strategies to greatly reduce or illuminate ourselves as targets of criminals. Another positive bit of information is that we do not have to carry a 44 magnum, or enroll in a 20 year long self defense program in order to have a good self defense plan! Devices and information are easily accessible to everyone via the internet, libraries, and sate and local law enforcement.

The information, links and devices on our web site, can help you be educated, armed and prepared for almost any circumstance where your personal safety is at risk. Risk management with regard to defending your property, person, and loved ones is really about being informed. Once you are informed, you can make the decisions about the products and training you need to always be in charge of any situation. We live in the information age, and in a society that has access to virtually unlimited technology. You are the one that has to make the decision to stop being a target, and to start being prepared. There simply is no alternative to protecting yourself against these terrible crimes! The Right to Keep and Bear Arms, clause of the U.S. Constitution does not simply apply to firearms; this right refers to being armed with knowledge too! You simply have the right to protect yourself, your property, and your loved ones.

Stun guns use high voltage and low amperage to temporarily disable an attacker for several minutes. The stun gun does not rely on pain for results. The energy stored in the gun is dumped into the attackers muscles causing them to do a great deal of work rapidly. This rapid work cycle instantly depletes the attackers blood sugar by converting it to lactic acid. In short, he is unable to produce energy for his muscles, and his body is unable to function properly. The stun gun also interrupts the tiny neurological impulses that control and direct voluntary muscle movement. When the attackers neuromuscular system is overwhelmed and controlled by the stun gun he loses his balance. Should the attacker be touching you, the current will NOT pass to your body!

As a forensic entomologist, I am familiar with law enforement and security. In my working experience in forensics I was contracted by various government agencies to establish evidenciary proof for a wide variety of crimes. In particular, I was often on the deadly end of crime scenes, where self defense was rather obviously not in use for the victim. Cosette Blog50132

The Perfume Spot

Todays consumer market is driven by women whether it is clothing, shoes, jewelry, handbags, linen, drapery, household items or perfumes; ladies just want to shop till they drop. Although perfumes and colognes are used by men also; but women are just wild about them. The perfume market has grown into a multi-billion dollar industry that never stagnates and is continuously introducing new products to lure more people to buy them. The real brand name perfumes are fairly expensive and every buyer tries to look for the perfume spot that offers the best prices. If you are looking for genuine perfumes or colognes; be prepared to spend fair amount of money at the perfume spot that even offers discount prices. These products are not cheap by any standards.

It is simply amazing to see the variety of perfumes and colognes available in the stores. And it keeps growing year after year. In spite of the exorbitant prices, the fad to own the latest in the market keeps growing. The perfume spot industry is an exact parallel of the fashion market that never stops. All companies in this business spend a phenomenal amount of money in research and development in the hope of creating a product that will create a sensation in the market. And it does not end there; the marketing side of business is another story.

The perfume spot companies pay big royalties to big and famous celebrities and use their names to market their products. We are all familiar with perfumes named after well known stars like Elizabeth Taylor, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, Paris Hilton and many more. Besides using the big celebrity names for the perfumes, a phenomenal amount of money is spent on advertisements in the fashion magazines, newspapers and TV commercials to promote the products. Month after month, new products are introduced by every perfume company in the hope of increasing their market share by attracting old as well as new clients.

The perfume spot is equally geared to attract male clientele for aftershave lotions and colognes. Come to think of it, men are not as much involved in fashion clothing, shoes and jewelry as women. But they are very much into wearing a good perfume for a good reason; trying to be noticed by the opposite sex. Even though we do not see many mens colognes named after big celebrities, there is a wide range of products available that are produced by some of the big name fashion icons in the industry.

To mention a few of the perfume spot products for men; Acqua Di Gio Cologne by Giorgio Armani, Chrome Cologne Eau De Toilette Spray for men by Azzaro, CK One Eau De Toilette Spray Unisex by Calvin Klein, Contradiction Cologne Eau De Toilette Spray for men by Calvin Klein, Cool Water Cologne Eau De Toilette Spray for men by Davidoff, Curve Cologne Eau De Toilette Cologne Spray for men by Liz Claiborne, Dolce & Gabanna Cologne Eau De Toilette Spray for men by Dolce & Gabbana, Eternity Cologne Eau De Toilette Spray for men by Calvin Klein, Kenneth Cole Black Cologne Eau De Toilette Spray for men by Kenneth Cole, Hugo Cologne Eau De Toilette Spray for men by Hugo Boss, Polo Blue Cologne Eau De Toilette Spray for men by Ralph Lauren, Obsession Cologne Eau De Toilette Spray for men by Calvin Klein, Versace's Dreamer Cologne Eau De Toilette Spray for men by Versace and the list is almost endless.
